Tour Plan

This morning, People Safaris will pick you up from your respective accommodations in Windhoek, unless you are arriving at Hosea Kutako International Airport. At 10:00 AM, you will depart from Windhoek in your safari vehicle, accompanied by a private guide. Your journey will take you southwest through the picturesque Khomas Hochland highlands, before descending the Great Escarpment into the Namib Desert below. Along the way, you will make a stop at a scenic location for a picnic lunch. In the mid-afternoon, you will reach Namib Desert Lodge, where you will be staying for two nights while you explore the remarkable sights of the Namib Desert with your guide. If time permits, your guide can take you to visit Sesriem Canyon, a nearby geological attraction, or explore Elim Dune. Alternatively, you may choose to simply relax amidst the scenic and tranquil surroundings of Namib Desert Lodge. After a long day, you will return to freshen up before enjoying dinner. The remainder of the night will be spent at your leisure.

This morning, following an early wake-up call, you will convene in the lobby where you will be served coffee or tea along with rusk. From there, you will embark on the Sossusvlei Excursion, heading towards Namib Naukluft Park. It is advisable to depart as early as possible in order to join the queue for the entrance to Sossusvlei. This will provide you with the opportunity to capture the dunes in optimal lighting conditions, as the soft light and shadows accentuate the majestic shapes and curves of the dunes. Following an exhilarating experience climbing the highest dune, known as Big Daddy, at Sossusvlei, you will have the chance to explore the surrounding dune fields, including Deadvlei. A leisurely picnic brunch will be enjoyed in the shade of a camelthorn tree. In the early afternoon, you will return to the lodge in time for a late lunch. If you have not yet visited Sesriem Canyon, the late afternoon can be dedicated to this excursion. The remainder of the day is yours to spend at your leisure.

The scenic route today will take you in a northwestern direction, traversing the captivating and ever-changing desert landscapes of Namib Naukluft National Park. Along the way, you will encounter the awe-inspiring Ghaub and Kuiseb Canyons, passing through the Kuiseb Pass. Eventually, you will reach the coastal town of Walvis Bay, where you will continue your journey northwards to Swakopmund. In Swakopmund, you will have the opportunity to appreciate the pleasant seaside setting and enjoy the refreshing coastal breeze for one night. The day will be at your leisure, with various optional activities available in Swakopmund. Your guide will be able to provide recommendations and information about these activities. After freshening up, you can explore the town on foot along the waterfront before indulging in a dinner at a local restaurant.

Today, following an early and breathtaking breakfast, you will embark on a journey to Walvisbay. The morning will be filled with an incredible activity, as you partake in a half-day Sandwich Harbour tour, led by a local guide. The tour will commence at 08h30 and conclude at 12h30. Following the activity, you will rendezvous with your guide at the waterfront and proceed towards Etosha National Park, with lunch being served en route. Arrival is expected in the late afternoon, after which you will check in and meet with your guide at the main area. You will then embark on a private vehicle game viewing experience, visiting waterholes in search of predators, as well as zebra, giraffe, elephant, rhino, and various species of antelope. Following the game viewing, you will have the opportunity to freshen up before dinner. The remainder of the evening is yours to relax at the main area, observing the comings and goings of the local wildlife, before retiring for the night.

Today we will spend most of the day searching for animals, as we make our way through the game reserve towards Namutoni, our next rest camp. We will visit a number of waterholes and stop to view the Etosha Pan, also known as the “place of dry water”. This extensive, flat depression is about 5,000sq km and is a place of shimmering mirages. Seeing large herds of game in this setting is a unique experience. We may stop at Halali (the middle camp) to have lunch before we continue on to Namutoni.

At Namutoni, we will be able to relax at the swimming pool or waterhole before a late afternoon game drive. The game viewing here is usually excellent, with close-up views of springboks, zebras, impalas, giraffes, gemsboks and plenty of birds. We may also see elephants and lions. In the evening, we can enjoy a glass of wine and fabulous sunset from the tower of the old Namibian German fort before dinner.

After a morning game drive and the opportunity to take some more pictures of Etosha's wildlife, be prepared for the long, scenic transit back to Windhoek. We'll pass through towns and rural areas, stopping in the small town of Okahandja, the home of Namibia’s largest wood carving market. The stalls operate on a local co-operative basis and offer a vast array of truly Namibian souvenirs. We will be back in Windhoek in the afternoon not later than 4:00 pm. You will be dropped off at your accommodation. For those who are returning back to their respective countries, please arrange with the guide so that you can drive as early as possible.
