Tour Plan
Today, you will be picked from Kigali airport by a representative of G and G TOUR
Depending on your arrival time you may be able to visit some of Kigali’s craft markets to look through the pottery, carvings, batik, weaving, sculpture, musical instruments, leather and fabrics on offer. All activities and purchases today are at your own cost.
This morning, subsequent to your breakfast, your designated guide will convene with you at the hotel and facilitate your transfer to Nyungwe Forest, which is among the largest forests in East and Central Africa. The forest is replete with an abundance of flora and fauna, including 13 primate species such as colobus monkeys, mangabeys, blue monkeys, and, of course, our primate relatives, the chimpanzees. Nyungwe Forest is also a renowned location for bird enthusiasts. With approximately 310 recorded bird species, 26 of which are endemic, this destination is one of the most significant and yet still relatively unknown bird watching locations in Africa. During your journey, you will partake in a midday meal. In the evening, you will settle into your private cottage at Nyungwe Forest Lodge, which is a luxurious accommodation and one of the finest in Rwanda.
Following an early morning breakfast, guests will proceed to the chimpanzee tracking trail located in either the Cyamudongo or Uwinka sections. The combined population of these two groups amounts to 80 individuals. This remarkable experience is sure to leave a lasting impression. After the chimpanzee tracking excursion, guests have the option to unwind at the hotel or partake in an additional activity of their choosing, which can be discussed with their guide.
After breakfast today, you will be transported to Musanze, in close proximity to the exquisite Volcano range. Your accommodation is situated near the entrance of the national park, affording a breathtaking vista of the Virunga Volcanoes. It is from this location that you will commence your Gorilla tracking expedition tomorrow. Should you desire, there is an option to enhance your experience by upgrading to the opulent Virunga lodge, renowned as one of the most splendid lodges in the country. This establishment boasts awe-inspiring panoramas of the Twin lakes and Volcanoes.
After breakfast today, you will proceed to the park office where the head ranger of the Rwanda Development Board will allocate you into groups based on your interests and physical fitness. Subsequently, your designated driver/guide will transport you as close as possible to the starting point of your tracking activity. During this excursion, you will have the opportunity to track one of the habituated Gorilla groups. The duration of the tracking experience can vary, ranging from as little as half an hour to as much as 8 hours. Encountering mountain gorillas up close is an extraordinary and unique occurrence that is unlikely to be repeated in one's lifetime. In the afternoon, you will visit the ibyiwacu Cultural Village. This non-profit organization serves as an umbrella entity with the objective of enhancing the well-being of reformed poachers and the surrounding communities near Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park. Their efforts primarily focus on providing conservation incentives, supporting the development of community enterprises, and implementing projects that promote sustainable livelihoods.
Following breakfast, you will be transported to the park headquarters to engage in the activity of golden monkey tracking. This unique experience is equally as gratifying as it is distinct. These captivating and animated creatures are currently on the endangered species list and are a marvel to observe as they bound through the lush vegetation. Subsequently, you will be transferred back to Kigali airport. Depending on your scheduled departure flight, you may opt to visit the Genocide Memorial and Education Centre. This establishment serves as a dignified tribute to the victims, featuring a poignant Children’s Memorial and a comprehensive account of Rwanda's darkest hour in recent history. Your designated driver/guide will ensure that you arrive at the airport in a timely manner for your return flight.
